Peter F. Drucker
  Author Details
With the publication of his first book, The End of Economic Man, in 1939, PETER E DRUCKER established himself as a trenchant, unorthodox, and independent analyst of politics, economics, and society. The most influential and widely read thinker and writer on modem organizations and their management, Drucker has come to be recognized in Kenneth Boulding's words as "a foremost philosopher of American society."

His books have been bestsellers in the United States and in many of the more than twenty languages into which they have been translated. Among them are The End of Economic Man (1939); Concept of the Corporation (1946); The Practice ofManagement (1954); The Effective Executive (1967); TheAge a/Discontinuity (1969); Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices (1974); Managing in Turbulent Times (1980); and Toward the Next Economics (1981). Also, Drucker has written a spirited account of his own life, Adventures of a Bystander (1978), and two novels, The Last of All Possible Worlds (1982) and The Temptation to Do Good (1984). He has been a frequent contributor to magazines for many years and is an editorial columnist for the Wall Street Journal. Drucker has had a distinguished career as a teacher and for more than twenty years has been professor of management at the Graduate Business School of New York University. Since 1971 he has been Clark Professor of Social Science at Claremont Graduate School, California.

Peter Drucker is married and has four children. He was bom in 1909 in Vienna, and was educated there and in England.
