Thousands of Kansas City Veterans Apply for Bonus Cash ...
The first check (lower) Alexander W. Graham, postmaster (left), hands
William L. Butler, 10 West Concord avenue, special representative of the
Business Men's Assurance Company, the first check issued at the Kansas
City post office in payment of a bonus. Butler received a check
for $742. A picture of Capt. Robert McGhee Graham, a brother of
Postmaster Graham, who was killed in action in France July 27, 1918,
which hangs in a place of honor in Mr. Graham's office, can be seen in
this picture.
