To Commemorate the Papal Visit to Canada, 1984
Mindful of the tender devotion of the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II,
to Our Blessed Mother, especially under Her Fatima title of Mary, Queen
of Peace, the Padre Pio Institute, Canada's National Centre for Padre
Pio, is proud to release, for the first time, this magnificent full-colour
photo portrait by internationally renowned photographer John Evans of
Ottawa, of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, to commemorate the historic
visit to Canada, by His Holiness, September, 1984.
The
statue, 42 inches in height exquisitely hand-carved from a single
block of rosewood, and tinted in delicate natural colours, is unique in
all the world.
It is the only Pilgrim Virgin
statue that was blessed by His
Holiness, at Fatima, Portugal, May 13th, 1982, on the occasion of his
poignant visit there, to render thanks to Our Lady for his recovery from
the assassination attempt on his life, made just one year before.
The day that he was shot, in St. Peter's Square in Rome, was the Feast
of Our Lady of Fatima, May 13th, 1981. |
