Memorial Card for
Rt. Rev.
Monsignor Nicola L. Fusco, P.A., LL. D.
July 12, 1887 - November 3,
1971 - We loved Monsignor Fusco in this life and we now commend him to the
mercy of God that he may enjoy the rest he so richly deserved for all
eternity. Unforgettable is the memory of our beloved Monsignor. This
testament of love was made so clear in the days following the tragic death
of Monsignor and John. Expressions of sympathy came from here and
across the ocean in the form of Masses, prayers, memorial gifts, and
countless other signs of affection for Monsignor's family and the family o
Mount Saint Peter.

The Right Reverend Monsignor Nicola Fusco, P.A., the Pastor Emeritus of
Mount St. Peter's Church, was born on July 12, 1887 in Italy. He was
the son of Gabriele and Carmela Melchior Fusco. He was educated and
then ordained a Priest at St. Vincent's Arch abbey, Latrobe, PA.
After serving in various parishes in Western PA, he came in 1923 as Pastor
to Mount Saint Peter when it had only 13 families and to New Kensington,
Pa, a valley which boasted at that time the headquarters of anarchism,
socialism and a strong climate of anti-Catholicism. |
|
Monsignor Fusco's charisma, brilliance and leadership soon changed all
that. When in 1940, the parish grew to 2400 families he motivated
his people to work with him to turn the fabulous and terrestrial paradise
of the Mellon Estate in Pittsburgh, PA which was being torn down, into a
beautiful monumental Temple of God. We find in Mount St. Peter's the
marble, the alabaster, the bronzes, the fine woods, the sandstone, the art
works of the Mellon Mansion put together by Monsignor in such a way that
they rise up and say: "My God, how great Thou art!" |
